Free Christmas concert

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, December 9, in Menlo Park. The public is invited and admission is free.

There will a several choral groups, including a children's choir directed by Marnie Ridgway; a youth choir directed by Janet Galbraith; a gospel choir, the Valparaiso Singers, a madrigal group directed by Erin Rettke; and a men's ensemble performing medieval music.

Music from many centuries will be performed, and audience members can sing along to classic Christmas carols that will punctuate the program. A brass ensemble, violin duet, flute, organ and piano will add to the celebration.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1105 Valparaiso Ave. in Menlo Park. For more information, call 494-7321 or 856-9700.

Youth orchestra concert

Works by Dvorak, Ravel and de Falla will be performed by the Peninsula Youth Orchestra in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 9, at the Canada College Main Theatre in Woodside.

Tickets at $6 for adults, and $3 for seniors and students, will be available at the door.

The orchestra performed last summer at the Australia Music Festival held in the Opera House in Sydney.
